Do you think back and remember the good times, or the bad times? Each year is filled with some of each, but focusing upon the bad leads you down a dark path. Turning your gaze to the good somehow sends light over the hurts, the frustrations, the sometimes agony.
It’s not that the bad doesn’t exist—in our personal story, the business climate, the nation’s angst—but stacked up next to all that is good in life the positive still wins. I noticed this recently as some “bad” filtered itself into my thoughts. Bad has a way of gaining hold if you let it. Poor me, why did I do/say that? If only…
If only takes you swirling into regret and regret is always a look backward. Who want to live life in reverse? Once I saw that prickly path in my head I began to think of all the things for which I am thankful. Gratitude and regret don’t hold hands. Gratitude sees hope and looks forward. Gratitude sheds light and breath to a weary heart.
May 2011 find you lifting burdens and striking out anew on this adventure we call life. No regrets, no backward lives…let’s go forward.
